Peru China. Millenary cultures, integration and strategic partnership
Carlos Acat Koch
This book is about the Chinese presence in Peru and the current state of the relationship between Peru and China. Its first part, which covers the period between 1849 to 1990, tells the history of the arrival of the first Chinese immigrants, how they integrated into the Peruvian society, and the impact of that integration on everyday life. It also discusses how and why the the chinese immigrants started commercial, agricultural and cottage industrial activities; the sources of their working capital; and the appearance of big Chinese-owned chains of retail stores. The second part of the book covers the period from 1990 to the present day, and discusses the investment of big Chinese capitals in Peru; the reasons for those investments, in what areas they took place, why they mostly came from state-owned companies, and their current state.
