Living gods. The sacred and the pagan in Peru
Pablo de la Vera
The tradition of venerating the natural elements –with its continuity of material culture and its still recognizable ethnography– can be traced back to an ancestral mythical past. This book analyzes that past from different perspectives; from the archaeological remains to the manifestations of religious syncretism, it explores the anthropology of the sacred elements of the Andes in continuity with the views of the world that the contemporary local populations hold. The book’s prologue is written by Ramiro Matos, a Peruvian anthropologist and archaeologist.
