Tallando el Tiempo. Historia de la madera en el Perú
Gabriela Germaná, Jaime Mariazza, Pablo de la Vera
Wood is an essential and versatile material that has a particular structure and morphology. The knowledge that prehispanic Peruvians had of it can be observed in the surviving architectural structures, household artifacts, symbolic pieces and sacred sculptures they produced. The availability of innumerable sources of wood favored the development of woodworking techniques that were backed by an ancient cultural tradition. During the colonial period, the Spanish technical, formal and aesthetic skills absorbed the indigenous knowledge to produce an extraordinary development of artistic woodworking. In this book a group of wood experts tells the history of the use of wood in prehispanic Peru. The book’s prologue is written by Luis Repetto Málaga.
