Gabriela Germaná holds a B.A. degree in History of Art and an M.A. degree in History, both from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. She is a curator and independent researcher of Peruvian traditional and 20th-century art. She has organized several exhibitions, including “Exodus / Llaqta Puchukay. Histories of migration and violence in the Sarhua paintings” (with Gustavo Buntinx, 2012); “Alternate Visions; Views and speeches in the MASM’s Popular Art Collection” (with María Eugenia Yllia, 2008); “Rojas, Mérida, Urbano, Sánchez. Great masters of Peruvian art” (with Giuliana Borea, 2008); and “Jesús Urbano Rojas. Retrospective Exhibit 1952-2007” (2007). She has also organized exhibitions for the Alianza Francesa in Lima. She has written articles for specialized magazines such as Illapa (Lima, Peru), Annals of the Museum of the Americas (Madrid, Spain) and American Handicrafts (Cuenca, Ecuador). She has been in charge of the Conservation, Cataloguing and Research areas of the Peruvian Culture National Museum and the Art Museum of San Marcos University. She was part of the research team of the “Documents of 20th-Century Latin American and Latino Art” project developed by the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston (Texas, USA) and the Art Museum of Lima. She has been visiting professor at the Universidad Católica’s Master program on History of Art, and has taught at the pre graduate program on History of Art of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, as well as at various art and design institutes. Currently she is working as curator of some coming exhibitions, such as the Lima 04 exhibition for the Contemporary Art Museum of Lima and the Sirens in Peruvian Waters exhibition for the Cultural Department of the Lima Municipality.
