Daniel Schávelzon is an Argentinean architect and archaeological monument restorer, who holds a Ph.D. in Pre-Columbian Architecture and specializes in historical urban architecture, cultural heritage conservation, cultural policies and prevention of trafficking in cultural goods. He is a professor at the University of Buenos Aires’ Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism, and has teaching experience in several other Latin American Universities, especially in Mexico. He has founded and directed several institutions, such as the Foundational Area of Mendoza (1988), the Center of Urban Archaeology at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (1991), and the Urban Archaeology Area for the government of the City of Buenos Aires (1996). He is a member and secretary (since 2005) of the Academy of History of Buenos Aires. His research work and publications have earned him several awards and international grants.
