Francisco Borja de Aguinagalde holds a degree in History from the University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain) and a diploma from the École Nationale des Chartes (Paris, France). He also pursued further studies in Madrid and Italy. He has played a key role in the preservation of the Basque Country’s documentary heritage. He coordinated the Basque Country Archives Census, published between 1986 and 1988, and currently serves as the Head of Documentary Heritage for the Basque Government and Director of IRARGI (Center for Documentary Heritage). He is also a contributor to the Bulletin of Historical Studies of San Sebastián and the Bulletin of the Royal Basque Society, as well as a member of Eusko Ikaskuntza and an honorary member of the Royal Basque Society of Friends of the Country. As a researcher, he has produced extensive academic work focused on Basque history and genealogy. He is the author of numerous publications, including La Familia Erquicia (1981), La República de los eruditos y los problemas del Método histórico (1984), El Archivo de los Condes de Peñaflorida (co-authored with Gabriela Vives Almandoz, 1987), Guía para la reconstrucción de familias en Gipuzkoa. Siglos XV-XIX (1994), and Gipuzkoako dorretxeak eta leinuak (1997). He is also the co-author of Los siete libros de la progenie y parentela de Esteban de Garibay (2000). His contributions to research and documentary heritage preservation have earned him recognition both within and beyond the Basque Country.
